Largest Archaeological Excavation in Guangdong in Recent Years Uncovers Ming-Era City Wall

Archaeologists in Dongguan have uncovered the ruins of the Ming-era Nanhai Guard City Wall on February 25, 2025, spanning 3,000 square meters, making it Guangdong’s largest single excavation in recent years. The site, dating back to 1384, includes well-preserved walls, roads, and drainage systems. Plans are underway to develop the area into an archaeological park highlighting Dongguan’s historical role in maritime defense and the Maritime Silk Road.
