Opinion | What to expect from China's two sessions next week
Next week, China's annual sessions of its top legislature and political advisory body, known as the "two sessions", take centre stage. The third session of the 14th National People's Congress and the third session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference will kick off on March 5 and March 4, respectively.
China is gearing up for the two sessions next week with the opening of a press centre at the Beijing Media Centre Hotel on February 27. More than 3,000 journalists have registered to cover the "two sessions" this year, including more than 1,000 reporters from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and foreign countries.
2025 is an important year for both China and the world. It marks the conclusion of China's 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025) and the planning for the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030). The international community will jointly commemorate the 80th anniversary of the World Anti-Fascist War and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. How the international order will carry on the past and open up the future has attracted much attention. At this juncture, China's two sessions have become an important opportunity to showcase China's development trend to the outside world, Chen Xiangyang, Doctoral Supervisor and Researcher of China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, said in a recent interview with China Youth Daily.

Chen listed a series of key issues that deserve the attention:
The high-quality development and recovery of China's economy: including how the central government will further increase fiscal support after the series of combined punches launched last year have shown results;
China's scientific and technological innovation and new productivity: especially China's AI-driven scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation represented by DeepSeek;
New progress in China's cultural industry: such as the Spring Festival file exploded by the film "Nezha 2", which became the highest-grossing Chinese and non-English film of all time, and the hot discussions and praise overseas;
China's diplomacy on the occasion of the 80th anniversary: how to lead the international community to jointly commemorate the two 80th anniversaries, how to jointly maintain the post-war international order with the United Nations as the main platform, how to deal with regional hot spots and promote global governance, and how to promote China's diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in the new stage of the great power game. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's press conference will also be in the spotlight.
Chen believes that the outside world's high attention to China's two sessions reflects China's growing international influence and the good situation of mutual benefit and mutual trust between China and other countries in the world. As the world enters a new period of turbulence and change, the international community is paying more and more attention to China's solutions, China's proposals and China's voice.
