Afterword | Global emergency aid or foreign aid freeze: who is responsible major country?
Since 2018, China has provided more than 1,000 emergency aid to more than 70 countries, targeting countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the South Pacific as well as Europe, spokesperson for China International Development Cooperation Agency Li Ming said recently. China's humanitarian assistance focuses on both short-term emergency relief supplies and long-term post-disaster reconstruction.
The U.S., in contrast, officially cancelled 83% of the United States Agency for International Development's (USAID) foreign aid contracts as of March 10. In fact, USAID's ideological infiltration and interference in the internal affairs of other countries have been criticized and publicly condemned by multiple nations. The vast majority of USAID's substantial funding may not actually reach those in need. Therefore, some commentators have suggested that the Global South is not mourning the demise of USAID because the soul of USAID is a tool of geopolitical control, a means of preserving, rather than eliminating global inequality.
