Ouresis Todorovich, a Greek professor from the University of Macau, expressed his admiration for Macao's cultural layers. "I really enjoy the diversity that I witness in Macao specifically," he shared. "I like the multi-layered cultures that exist in Macao, including the Portuguese."

On the language issue, Ouresis said, "I don't find it a problem that I don't speak Chinese at the moment because a lot of people speak English. Some people even speak very good English, so it's not an obstacle."

His sentiments were echoed by Timothy A. Simpson, another American professor from the University of Macau who is based in Macao. Timothy has been in Macao for about 23 years. "It’s not a problem to live in Macao and be an English speaker," he said. "Especially if you can just learn a few Cantonese phrases and words that's all you really need to get around. Macao has always been international." (By Zhao Anqi, Zhu Caiyun/China Youth Daily)
