From the Ground Up: How China Reviews Laws for Gender Equality

Since the 1995 Beijing World Conference on Women, China has built a nationwide system to assess draft regulations for gender bias. Experts review policies across education, employment, healthcare—even village rules. When Beijing reviewed a rural property reform, they ensured women became shareholders. A disaster relief policy now includes sanitary products for women."We used to hunt for obvious discrimination," says one longtime expert. "Now it's harder to find.”The shift reflects a deeper change: gender equality is no longer an afterthought—it's being built in from the start.
