Beijing Launches Spring Pollen Counteroffensive

Beijing has entered its spring pollen season, mainly caused by Cupressaceae plants like Chinese juniper, with peak pollination in mid-March.Local landscaping authorities have adopted tech-driven prevention: pruning, high-pressure spraying, and two eco-friendly biological agents to reduce pollen spread. A new pollen inhibitor that cuts male cones by 90% is being tested, and automatic spraying robots are under development.Medical experts advise early anti-allergy medicine, masks, goggles, and avoiding going out during high pollen hours.The city aims to balance cypress trees’ ecological value and public health via scientific, targeted pollen control.
