Decade of Reading Promotion Transforms Rural Chinese County
For 10 years, Jingchuan County in Gansu has pioneered a community-wide reading campaign, integrating reading into daily lessons and training teachers to lead innovative classes. Schools engage parents through book clubs, while public lectures and live-streamed sessions reach wider audiences. Students now read an average of 15 books annually, exceeding the national youth average. This sustained effort, supported by cross-sector collaboration and social organizations, has cultivated a vibrant local reading culture. Officials say the model demonstrates how literacy development can strengthen community bonds and contribute meaningfully to rural revitalization.(Photo/China Youth Daily)
