Young Artisans Rekindle a Fading Chinese Pottery Tradition

Young artisans are breathing new life into Rongchang pottery, a 2,000-year-old craft once named among China’s “Four Famous Potteries.” Known as “Rong drifters,” these makers—including university graduates and former professionals—are reviving the tradition through studios, live-streaming, and contemporary designs. Supported by local policies, the community has grown to over 145 workshops, attracting international apprentices and export orders.
