Spokesperson's Remarks｜"Taiwan independence" separatist activities are rather disgraceful and bound to fail

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities continues to seek foreign support for "Taiwan independence" and use all kinds of platforms to peddle separatist narratives, spread disinformation and mislead the public, and their moves are rather disgraceful and bound to fail, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a press conference on Tuesday.

Guo's remarks were made in response to a media question regarding head of so-called "external affairs" authority of Taiwan region Lin Chia-lung's recent claim that they are not worried about the U.S. would abandon Taiwan, saying the relationship remains stable. 

Guo noted that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The biggest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait at present is the separatist activities of "Taiwan independence" forces and the external connivance and support they receive. China firmly opposes any official interaction between the U.S. and China's Taiwan region in any form. China calls on the U.S. to abide by the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiqués and exercise extra prudence regarding the Taiwan question.

Nothing the DPP authorities say or do will ever change the historical and legal fact that Taiwan is part of China's territory, still less the inevitability of China's reunification, Guo stressed. (By Ma Ziqian/China Youth Daily)
