New Life for Ancient Quarries: Yandang in Jinyun

Once abandoned quarries in Jinyun County, Zhejiang, now showcase vibrant cultural rejuvenation. Three century-old Yandang stone mining sites are ingeniously transformed: one into a layered bookstore within 10-story cliffs, another into an acoustically resonant theater, and a third into an exhibition hall. This transformation of industrial heritage into popular cultural hubs boosts local economy and exemplifies how ancient landscapes merge cultural legacy with modern vitality. The "Book Mountain" site, notably, provides a literal, immersive experience resonating with tradition and nature.(Photo: the organizer)
