Recently, a research team in China has made a groundbreaking discovery in bird fossils that is reshaping our understanding of avian evolution. This newly discovered bird species, named "Zhenghe Baming," reveals that modern bird body structures were already present in the late Jurassic period (approximately 150 million years ago), pushing back the emergence of key features such as the pygostyle by nearly 20 million years.
It’s known that the research team was led by Wang Min from the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with the Fujian Provincial Geological Survey Team
